Friends old and new

Obviously I haven't posted anything here in a really, REALLY long time. I realized rather quickly after creating this account that I much prefer to keep my diary in my diary. I do, however, enjoy checking up on my friends who do post here. Perhaps I should say so more often. Hearts to all of you!

More to the immediate point, however, I am moved to post today by the sudden and unexpected addition of a new "friend" to my little circle. Someone named "tijavyn," whose identity is utterly unknown to me and about whom I am perfectly clueless, has elected to befriend me.

I would be most gratified if this individual, or any of my actual friends who might be in the know, could please clue me in.

And since I'm here, and since this is technically the very medium for keeping up with friends, I'll also say everyone at my house is fine. I'm continuing my private belly dance lessons and loving it. David is on an upward happy trend. Alex is finishing up a brilliant junior year with straight As and high TAKS scores and membership in the National Honor Society. Scarlett is less interested in grades, though hers are all passing, but she is doing admirably well in terms of working through classic teenage girl drama without any major damage. Better than I did at her age, frankly. Sophie is finishing up third grade having survived her math teacher, which has been a surprisingly difficult challenge (I want to smack the woman, honestly, but that's a whole can of worms.) Gideon has learned to read and write pretty well, and LOVES math. Yay! Altogether, though, I can't wait for school to END already. Two more weeks.

In the immortal words of Han Solo, we're all fine here, how are you? And can anyone tell me who the hell tijavyn is?

Love to all!

well, this is a blog, after all...

And to me, the word blog primarily means politics. That's one reason I feel weird writing one. If this is one. I mean, it is, isn't it? So. Politics...

John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth are at this very moment giving a press conference to discuss her health status. Seems she's got bone cancer in a couple of ribs (they didn't say this, but it's almost certainly metastasized breast cancer, spread to bone, as opposed to primary bone cancer). This is an awful thing for their family, though they are saying the doctors indicate that it's very treatable right now (incurable, however). I sincerely hope Mrs. Edwards can live many more years in relatively good health. They have two small children, just perfect cherubs; they remind me of Sophie and Gideon. And their family has already suffered the tragic accidental death of their oldest son, Wade, at only 16, a number of years ago.

But the thing I'm selfishly most concerned about, most importantly, is that John says his candidacy will continue. Maybe none of you reading this gives a damn, but I for one am quite relieved. I am about 75% decided on voting for John in the primary. I really think he's my man. And hearing early this morning that there was a press conference, I was terrified he would announce his withdrawal from the campaign. I'm so glad he's not doing that at this point. I hope he doesn't have to. I sincerely hope Elizabeth does well, for her own sake and that of her family, but I also hope Elizabeth does well so John can keep running!

Edwards 2008!
